The east coast of Kenya is washed by the waters of the Indian Ocean, where sandy beaches, comfortable hotels and hot sun await tourists all year round. Mombasa is rightfully considered the center of the Kenyan seaside resort.
The capital, largest city and business center of the country is Nairobi (2.3 million people). The main seaport is Mombasa (1 million people in 1997). Other major cities are Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret, Thika and Nanyuki.
